About this site

Semio-Semantics is an independent publication created by Amy Rose Flynn in June 2025.

The name comes from linguistics:
"Semio" relates to signs and symbols — how we represent and interpret meaning.
"Semantics" is about what those meanings are and how they shift depending on language, culture and context.

This space draws on both structural linguistics, which sees language as a system for making sense of the world, and post-structuralism, which reminds us that meaning is rarely fixed. Instead, it is shaped by power, perspective and relationships.

At Semio-Semantics, we explore how meaning is created — not just in theory, but in practice: in classrooms, in curricula, in digital tools, in communities and in our small decisions that shape how we live and work.

This site exists for educators, designers, writers and anyone curious about language, learning and connection, especially in an age where automation and AI are reshaping how we communicate and understand one another.

You’ll find reflections that weave together threads from education, psychology, philosophy, linguistics, technology and the natural world. The posts aim to raise questions, not just provide answers.

  • How do we think and design for understanding, not just for information?
  • How do we stay grounded in care, clarity and human connection with ourselves and others, even as the systems and philosophies around us change?

Whether you work with people, ideas or language — this is a space to pause, think and reconnect with the meaning behind your work.
